Police stop truck hauling nearly 300 pounds of cocaine worth $13M on I-70
Indianapolis, Indiana – A semi-truck driver is in custody after being accused of transporting nearly 300 pounds of cocaine through the central region of Indiana.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, IMPD Interdiction Detectives were given credible information that a significant quantity of narcotics would travel through Marion County on November 30. This information was received by IMPD Interdiction Detectives.
On Interstate 70, in Hendricks County, the truck was located by the police and pulled over when it reached mile marker 64. Officers conducted an interview with the truck’s driver, who was identified as Mauro Alonzo-Vargas, 50, from Ennis, Texas. IMPD narcotics K9 Mina gave a positive indication that drugs were coming from the truck.
After obtaining a search warrant, the investigators conducted a search, which led to the discovery of approximately 130 kilograms (approximately 286 pounds) of cocaine with an estimated retail value of $13 million.
Alonzo-Vargas was taken into custody by the police and subsequently booked into the Hendricks County Jail. According to the documents filed in the case, he has been accused of engaging in the distribution of cocaine.
