With activities, music, and giveaways, Pacers Plaza will make its debut

Indianapolis, Indiana – Later this month, Pacers Sports & Entertainment will host a weekend of free festivities to celebrate the Bicentennial Unity Plaza’s official grand opening.
On August 24, at 10 a.m., community leaders will cut the ribbon at Bicentennial Unity Plaza, which is located north of Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Indiana Fever Pre-Game Party will take place after the ribbon-cutting and feature live music, games, giveaways, face painters, balloon twisters, and other entertainment. Entry does not require a ticket.
A basketball court that transforms into an ice rink in the winter, interactive sculptures, large-scale public art, and other areas will be included in the plaza and scheduled for year-round community events and activities.
“Bicentennial Unity Plaza is a canvas, literally and figuratively, in our downtown, a place where Indy’s eclectic arts and culture will be on display and the backdrop against which visitors can celebrate our shared values. I am so grateful to the CIB for their partnership and leadership and to Lilly Endowment for its generosity in helping bring this vision to life,” said Rick Fuson, Pacers Sports & Entertainment CEO.
There will be events planned for guests of all ages the following days:
• Friday, Aug. 25: Happy Hour on the Plaza; 5-9 p.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 26: Indy Night Market on the Plaza; 5-10 p.m.
• Sunday, Aug. 27: Jr. Hoops Mini Clinic, 1-3 p.m.; Love of the Game, 1-5 p.m.
The full mural featuring 43 of the most notable figures who helped define Indianapolis will be unveiled later this year on the east wall of the Steak n’ Shake Building overlooking the plaza. A 40-person team chose the 200 leaders from the years 1820 to 2020 who are depicted on the mural. Only those who have passed away were on the list.
