One person in custody and one man died in a fatal domestic incident
Salem, Indiana – Early on Sunday morning, a domestic dispute at a Washington County house turned tragic, taking the life of a 29-year-old man.
The man was recognized by Indiana State Police as Salem resident Jacob Mitchell.
On a complaint of a person shot, Salem Police Department officers and state police troopers were sent to a residence in the 500 block of North College Avenue on Sunday night at midnight, according to investigators.
Upon reaching the scene, Mitchell was discovered unconscious from a gunshot wound on the ground. At the scene, he was declared deceased.
Three individuals, two ladies, and a male, were reportedly present at the residence when the incident occurred and were detained by the police to be questioned.
After speaking with the three, investigators discovered that the gunshot was the consequence of a “domestic incident.” As a result, they detained Blake Henry, 24, of Salem, for his involvement in the event.
As of Sunday morning, Henry was confined to the Washington County jail. A preliminary charge of murder was brought against him.
About 100 miles south of Indianapolis, in Washington County, Salem is located east of Paoli.
