Jennings County man arrested in child abuse case involving 1-year-old found with bruised face, a burned arm & leg injury
Jennings County, Indiana – According to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office, a Jennings County man was taken into custody this week on charges of physically abusing a 1-year-old kid.
Medical personnel at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour contacted JCSO deputies on January 1 and informed them that they had just treated a child who had shown indicators of potential physical abuse. This prompted deputies to launch an investigation. According to JCSO, the alleged physical abuse happened at a home in Marion Township, Jennings County.
A 1-year-old infant was discovered with numerous bruises on their face, indications of a burn to their arm, and a fractured tibia in their left leg. Deputies were alerted to the situation.
To receive specialized care, the kid was flown to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
According to JCSO, detectives identified 26-year-old Kiah D. Wingate as a possible suspect during the course of their investigation. According to JCSO, Wingate allegedly told investigators that he was the reason of the child’s injuries during an interview.
After that, Wingate was detained and taken to the Jennings County Jail, where he was first accused of two felonies: neglecting a dependent and violence on a juvenile resulting in serious bodily injury (level 3).
