Indiana flu-related deaths for 2023-24 total more than 100
Indianapolis, Indiana – Since a week ago, the state of Indiana has added 15 deaths connected to influenza to its influenza dashboard. This brings the total number of deaths caused by influenza to over 100 so far this season.
111 people had died from the flu, which is 15 higher than the previous week’s total.
At this point in time in the year 2023, the Indiana State Department of Health had documented 176 deaths caused by influenza.
The influenza season of 2022–2023 resulted in a total of 270 deaths in the state of Indiana.
In the 2023-24 season, the number of deaths that occurred in Marion County, which encompasses Indianapolis, was the highest, totaling 13. Elkhart County (Goshen) has seven, Lake County (Crown Point) has nine, Porter County (Valparaiso) has eight, and Tippecanoe County (Lafayette) has six. Elkhart County is located in the state of Indiana.
People aged 65 and over accounted for 79 of the fatalities that occurred in the state of Indiana.
Additionally, on Friday, the state dashboard reported that the level of influenza activity in Indiana was “high.”
During the most recent influenza update, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States placed the adjacent state of Ohio in the “very high” category.
To put this into perspective, the state COVID-19 dashboard, which was updated on Wednesday, has reported 329 deaths between January 2 and February 20 alone.
