120 flu-related deaths have occurred in Indiana so far in the 2023–24 season
Indianapolis, Indiana – On Friday, Indiana’s influenza dashboard showed nine deaths linked to the virus since a week earlier.
There have been 120 flu deaths thus far in the 2023–2024 season.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported 230 flu-related deaths as of this writing in 2023. In the 2022–2023 season, there were 270 flu-related deaths in Indiana.
Indianapolis’ Marion County has recorded the highest number of deaths in the 2023–24 season—14. Elkhart County (Goshen), Porter County (Valparaiso), Lake County (Crown Point), and Tippecanoe County (Lafayette) are next, with 11 and 8 respectively. There have been five fatalities in each of the counties of Delaware (Muncie), Jasper (Rensselaer), and St. Joseph (South Bend).
People 65 years of age and older accounted for 86 of Indiana’s fatalities.
Additionally, the state dashboard indicated on Friday that Indiana’s flu activity was “high.” Ohio, a neighbor, was classified as having a “very high” influenza risk in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s influenza update.
In contrast, 357 deaths have been reported on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard between January 2 and February 27 as of Tuesday’s update.
