Morgan County Clerk dies in fatal crash
Morgan County, Indiana – On Saturday evening, the Morgan County Clerk died in a single-vehicle crash.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on State Road 67 just a half-mile south of the intersection of State Roads 67 and 39.
This location is where SR 67 turns from a four-lane divided highway to a two-lane highway, according to police.
A 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling south on SR 67 going from the four-lane divided highway to the two-lane highway, police say.
According to police, the pickup truck crossed the northbound lane, traveling down an embankment and striking several trees.
John Elliot, 56, from Martinsville, was the driver of the pickup truck. Elliot was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition, police say.
Stephanie Elliot, 52, from Martinsville, was a passenger in the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Stephanie Elliot was serving as the Morgan County Clerk and was the Republican candidate for Morgan County Auditor.
The investigation is ongoing.
