Police promise to take action against trail drivers
Indianapolis, Indiana – Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have announced that they will enhance patrols along the Monon Trail following reports of motorists swerving around construction.
Cars are seen using the route close to Broad Ripple Avenue in images from the Twitter account @CircleCityCycho. Bryan Schmidt, who frequently utilizes the route, claims that it has occurred elsewhere, including 54th Street.
“I would say it’s an innocent accident, but certainly there are people who are going to get on there where they shouldn’t,” Schmidt said.
In order to prevent cars from entering, the Department of Public Works built orange barrels but stated in a statement that it is searching for a more long-term solution.
Since Broad Ripple Avenue construction started earlier this year, some people have observed an increase in the number of automobiles using the trail as a shortcut.
“People were misinformed. They didn’t know the construction was going to happen at that time, and some people were confused. There have been a lot of out-of-state drivers,” Arthur Wright said.
Schmidt suggested installing speed bumps close to where the streets and the trail converge in order to slow down traffic.
