Gruesome animal cruelty case in Indiana
Newburgh, Indiana – A lady from Indiana who was previously found guilty of animal cruelty charges will appear in court once more.
Authorities claim they discovered a dead dog and dog body parts in an Evansville residence off Mooring Road, leading to Shayna Burko’s arrest back in July.
A neighbor reportedly told deputies they hadn’t seen the homeowner in a few weeks, according to the arrest complaint. Deputies said Shayna Burko was supposed to be looking after the animals in the home.
As authorities examined the house, a search warrant turned up a grisly scene. Deputies said they discovered a dog’s detached head and leg on the floor. A dog that had survived inside the house had open wounds and was missing a foot, according to the authorities.
Additionally, authorities revealed a dead dog was found in the living room. The house, which according to authorities was filthy in urine and excrement, had five dogs removed from it.
According to an affidavit, Burko said deputies that she had last visited the house in May. According to court records, she was accused of five charges of animal cruelty in Warrick County in 2018. On three counts, she was found guilty, while the other two were dropped.
The jury trial for Shayna Burko is scheduled on April 19, 2023. She is charged with seven felonies for animal abuse.
