Democrat from Indianapolis and member of the House Transportation Committee, U.S. Rep. André Carson, referred to the cancellation rate as “unreasonable and intolerable.
“U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Tuesday talked about the Southwest situation. “Their system really has completely melted down.”
“I made clear that our department will be holding them accountable for their responsibilities to customers, both to get them through this situation and to make sure that this can’t happen again,” Buttigieg added.
More than 3,100 flights had been canceled and more than 6,400 had been delayed as of 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday throughout the United States. The majority of the chaos was carried by Southwest Airlines on Tuesday, which had to cancel more than 60% of its domestic flights.
