Donation of $1 million for the Baxter YMCA in Indianapolis’ outdoor sports complex
Indianapolis, Indiana – After receiving a donation of one million dollars from an unknown donor, a YMCA located on the south side of Indianapolis is moving forward with plans to construct an outdoor sports complex.
The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis announced on Tuesday that the Arthur R. Baxter YMCA, which is located at 7900 Shelby Street, will begin construction on the sports complex in the month of March.
The recreation center cannot be finished without an additional investment of $100,000. When it is finally finished, the complex will feature basketball and pickleball courts, two soccer parks, a 40-yard turf field, a pavilion, and an outdoor walking trail.
“We are addressing some unmet needs in our community with the addition of turf fields and a walking path,” Jim Naumovich, center advisory board chair for Baxter YMCA, said in a statement. “The Baxter YMCA is a magnet that attracts individuals of all ages and from all walks of life, and this development will provide additional opportunities to engage the public as well as our members.”
The Baxter YMCA has announced that it is looking for corporations and private individuals to purchase the naming rights for the entire complex, including the two soccer parks, turf field, basketball, pickleball courts, and more.
