An Indianapolis man may be sentenced to prison for lying about the attack on a postal worker
Indianapolis, Indiana – If found guilty of lying to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service about the armed robbery of a postal worker, an Indianapolis man faces jail time.
On Monday, Carl Davis, 24, was charged with providing false statements to federal officers.
Carl Davis lied to postal inspectors in April 2022 when he claimed to have seen the robbery earlier in the month, according to court records.
Davis named the person he believed to be the attacker, claiming the person confessed to carrying out the heist.
Davis didn’t witness the crime and the person he listed as the suspect never confessed to him, according to federal prosecutors, who claim that at the time Davis made these allegations, he was aware that they were untrue.
If found guilty, Davis may be sentenced to up to five years in jail, a $250,000 fine, and three years of probation.
