The 1973 Triple Crown’s Secretariat saddle purchased by Irsay Collection
Indianapolis, Indiana – The newest addition to The Jim Irsay Collection is the saddle used by famed racehorse Secretariat when he captured the Triple Crown of horse racing.
The 1973 Triple Crown was won by Secretariat, widely regarded as the greatest racehorse of all time, who won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.
The exceptional horse won the Belmont Stakes by an incredible 31 lengths in a world record time after breaking track records in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Races.
Being retired to stud in Kentucky, Secretariat produced almost 600 foals. Five decades after winning the Triple Crown, Secretariat’s offspring are still having an impact on the horse racing industry.
The famous Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte, who steered Secretariat to the Triple Crown, donated the saddle to the museum.
The Jim Irsay Band will perform for free on March 4 at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, along with an exhibition of the Jim Irsay Collection, and the saddle will be on display for the first time at that time. Tickets are necessary even though the event is free and open to the public. Online reservations for tickets are available at www.jimirsaycollection.com.
Instruments and other things used and owned by some of the greatest musicians in history, such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Prince, Eric Clapton, and Sir Elton John, are also included in the collection.
