Shackleford, a state representative running for mayor, unveiled a strategy for public safety
Indianapolis, Indiana – Robin Shackleford, a candidate for mayor and state representative, aims to reestablish trust, secure families, and rebuild the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
When she unveiled the strategy on Wednesday, that was her platform for ensuring public safety.
The strategy calls for ghost firearms to be outlawed, the public safety director’s job to be reinstated, and the 48-hour release of body camera footage from police shootings and incidents of excessive force.
According to Shackleford, more needs to be done by the city to safeguard children and families.
“We have ineffective leadership and we’ve had it for the past eight years. It’s time. Joe must go. Our city is in a crisis and unless we do something right now, the next tragedy might be knocking at your door,” she said.
Shackleford is attempting to remove incumbent Mayor Joe Hogsett, a fellow democrat. On May 2, there will be primaries.
