To help others, letter carriers invite Indiana residents to place food in mailboxes
Indianapolis, Indiana – People who are experiencing food insecurity are nonetheless receiving assistance.
The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive of the Letter Carriers will celebrate its third birthday on Saturday. It is regarded as one of America’s greatest giving days, according to the organizers.
Food items will be collected by letter carriers across the country, who will subsequently deliver them to nearby food banks.
With a kickoff ceremony to increase awareness on Thursday, Indiana carriers got a good start.
During the start at Refinery 46, 2201 E. 46th St., Paul Toms, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Branch 39, discussed the necessity. “And those needs are up even greater, 30-40% pre-pandemic. We want this to be successful again, particularly in Indianapolis and our AOS, because it stays in those communities that need it.”
Nonperishable food can be bagged and left at mailboxes on Saturday if someone wants to donate. The bags of food will be picked up by letter carriers, who will also handle the rest.
