Indianapolis 500, 107th Edition
Indianapolis, Indiana – The field has been finalized for the Indianapolis 500 during the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s 107th running.
The fastest pole speed in the history of the event was recorded on Sunday by Alex Palou, who won the pole with a record-breaking run. Over the course of the Firestone Fast Six session, he averaged 234.21 mph.
It’s Palou’s first pole position for the Indy 500 and Chip Ganassi Racing’s third straight pole win, making them the first team to do so since Team Penske won four straight from 1988 to 1991.
The weekend’s theme was speed. With 33 cars averaging 232.184 mph, this year’s Indianapolis 500 field is the quickest in the race’s illustrious history, breaking last year’s mark of 231.023 mph.
Helio Castroneves (2001, 2002, 2009, 2021), Scott Dixon (2008), Tony Kanaan (2013), Ryan Hunter-Reay (2014), Alexander Rossi (2016), Takuma Sato (2017, 2020), Will Power (2018), Simon Pagenaud (2019), and Marcus Ericsson (2022) are among the nine former winners in this year’s field of the Indianapolis 500.
Rossi, Sato, and Kanaan, three of those previous champions, all qualified in Row 3. The Greatest Spectacle in Racing has never seen a driver achieve Castroneves’ goal of a record-breaking fifth victory.
This year’s race featured four rookies: Sting Ray Robb (32nd), Agustin Canapino (27th), and Benjamin Pederson (11th).
It has been scheduled on Sunday, May 28.
