Indianapolis, Indiana – A dentist’s office on Indianapolis’ east side has disclosed that there was a data breach.
On October 20, 2020, Arlington Westend Dental, LLC was the target of a ransomware attack, according to a news statement. The practice’s systems were momentarily disabled and its data was encrypted during the attack.

Westend Dental contacted its IT contractor to try to fix the problem. However, the contractor’s internal backups of the practice did not contain all of the exposed material.

A forensic investigation could not be finished since the contractor was unable to recover all of the disclosed data. According to Westend Dental, some of the compromised data was retrieved from its software suppliers.

Following the attack, Westend Dental, which is situated at 5900 East 10th Street, has stated that it completely redesigned its IT infrastructure. According to the practice, it improved its firewall and encryption procedures, introduced more security layers, and raised staff training.

During the cyberattack, information about appointments, biometrics, contacts, accounts, treatment plans, dental charts, x-rays, new patient forms, and insurance verifications were all compromised.

According to Westend Dental, there doesn’t seem to have been any misuse of the disclosed information. Nonetheless, the business advises its clients to check their account records and report any questionable activity to the police.

Patients with data issues can also contact [email protected] or 1-888-994-6808 for assistance from Westend Dental.

The business released a statement saying, “We sincerely regret that this incident occurred and remain committed to earning back your trust.” “Your security and privacy are our first priorities, and we are doing everything we can to stop similar incidents from happening again.”
