After protestors blocked Lafayette Road, three people were taken into custody
Indianapolis, Indiana – After a sizable demonstration blocked Lafayette Road on Saturday night, three people were taken into custody by the IMPD.
Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to an event facility in the 1700 block of Lafayette Road just after 5 p.m. on Saturday due to reports of a sizable protest group. That’s a neighborhood and business district on the western edge of the city. A bystander informed him that a gathering was being held in opposition to the dictatorship in the East African nation of Eritrea.
A different group that was in favor of Eritrea’s administration showed up at some point to voice their opposition. Eventually, the sizable gathering moved onto the street and started obstructing traffic.
Investigators claim that once a car passed close to the gathering, people started leaping on it.
IMPD closed the area between 16th Street and Cold Spring Road for approximately two hours as a result of the incident. Protesters began to evacuate the route shortly after 7 p.m., and police then permitted traffic to pass through the area once more.
On December 30, at 10:38 p.m., IMPD released the following names of the three individuals detained during the incident:
• Rodas Gebrenedhi (20 years old)—Battery on a public safety official, resisting law enforcement, obstructing traffic, and disorderly conduct
• Merih Ghebremichael (39 years old)—Battery on a public safety official, resisting law enforcement, obstructing traffic, and disorderly conduct
• Semere Gebrezgabiher (25 years old)— Battery on a public safety official, resisting law enforcement, obstructing traffic, and disorderly conduct
