An elementary school employee arrested for carrying a gun on school property
Elkhart, Indiana – According to city police, a staff member at Elkhart’s Mary Beck Elementary School was detained on Monday for bringing a firearm onto school property.
Following notification by another staff member, the Elkhart Police Department’s school resource officer detained the employee at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday, according to the police.
The worker’s identity and their role at the school have not been made public by Elkhart police. After that, the worker was sent to the Elkhart County jail.
According to authorities, no formal charges have been made.
Since the arrest, Elkhart Community Schools has not made any public announcements on staffing adjustments, thus it was unclear what the staff member’s status was.
Situated south of Elkhart’s downtown, the school is situated northeast of South Main Street and East Indiana Avenue.
About 30 minutes’ drive east of South Bend lies the 53,800-person city in northern Indiana.
