Indianapolis, Indiana – An Indianapolis couple who had sexually assaulted and exploited their 18-month-old child were given a total of 90 years in federal prison.

The sentence was disclosed in a release issued on Friday by the Southern District of Indiana United States Attorney’s Office.

The release states that the pair had a child sometime in 2020 and that they had an intermittent connection from 2019 until January 2022, according to court records.

Except sporadic visits from its father, the child lived mostly with its mother.

When the parents got physical custody of the child beginning in December 2021, they sexually abused and took advantage of the 18-month-old. According to court documents, the parents created over 100 recordings and pictures showing child sex abuse.

Detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received a tip from Google in January 2022, indicating that the couple had uploaded files showing their child being sexually abused. Officers found the parents right away and took them into custody.

According to the press statement, the pair told detectives about their actions. The father acknowledged that he had shared the materials on adult porn websites and through messaging apps like Kik and Snapchat. For the materials, the father also penned “very graphic” criticism.

The couple entered a guilty plea to the charges of transporting items that encourage child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a minor by a parent or guardian.

The father received a sentence that included 15 years of supervised release after serving 60 years in federal prison. The mother received a 30-year sentence that included lifelong supervised release.

Zachary Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, said in the release, “Babies are precious and vulnerable, and most parents have an instinctual desire to protect them from harm. (These parents) instead chose to exploit their baby in the most cruel and unimaginable ways before (they were) even old enough to walk or speak. The people responsible for these monstrous crimes will now spend decades in federal prison where they cannot exploit another child.”

Additionally, a federal judge mandated that the parents reimburse the child and others for a total of $50,500.
