Arrest following gunshot at a house party in Muncie
Muncie, Indiana – Following the shooting deaths of two persons at a home party early on Saturday morning, a Muncie man has been placed under arrest.
Camran Byrd, age 21, was arrested on the following preliminary accusations, according to a news release from the Muncie Police Department:
• One count of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony
• One count of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony
• Two counts of criminal recklessness, a Level 5 felony
• One count of pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony
• A misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement.
Delaware County dispatch was notified of a reported shooting at a residence in the 900 block of W. Carson Street in Muncie at around 12:29 a.m. on Saturday.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers from the Muncie Police Department and other law enforcement agencies discovered two people who had apparently been shot.
Officers found the two people outside the house, according to court filings. According to the documents, there was a party, and people began fleeing the house as soon as the cops arrived. An argument at the party is said to have caused the gunshots that witnesses heard coming from inside the house.
According to the press release, one of the victims of the gunshot wound was sent to a hospital in Indianapolis and is currently in stable condition. After receiving treatment on the spot, the other individual was let go.
Detectives allegedly spoke with a number of witnesses as part of the department’s investigation. According to the announcement, detectives identified Byrd as a suspect in the shooting based on the testimony of witnesses.
Byrd allegedly fled from detectives, who found him at approximately 3:27 p.m. on Saturday. Byrd was taken into custody following a brief pursuit.
