As the I-69 Finish Line project progresses, drivers should be on the lookout for additional adjustments
Indianapolis, Indiana – Central Indiana motorists were delighted on Monday morning with new lanes and freshly laid pavement following a busy weekend that reduced eastbound I-465 to a single lane.
To facilitate the transition of traffic to the recently renovated lanes, the Indiana Department of Transportation restricted two eastbound lanes as well as several ramps. They also erect walls that act as barriers.
For the remainder of the week, westbound traffic will continue to use the current travel lanes; but, on December 22, INDOT stated, traffic will shift to new pavement.
There is still more to be done on the I-69 Finish Line project.
Harding Street beneath I-465 began to have lane limits on Saturday. There is now only one left turn lane, one through lane, and one right turn lane for both north and southbound traffic. The majority of next year will be spent using this setup.
Workers will begin tearing down the I-465 bridge that runs westward. In the construction zone, drivers ought to reduce their speed.
Additionally, workers will start demolishing the I-465 flyover on Bluff Road, and they anticipate finishing that task by Thursday, December 21. Bluff Road between Thompson Road and Hanna Avenue will be closed to traffic every night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Although there will be local access during the closure, Thompson Road to Meridian Street to Hanna Avenue and back to Bluff Road is the suggested route.
On January 2, nightly closures will start up again.
Additionally, while workers install new overhead signs and structures this week on I-465 east and westbound, drivers should be aware of “rolling closures.”
INDOT reported that the State Road 37 temporary access for northbound traffic at Edgewood Avenue has been permanently eliminated. According to INDOT, Southport Road or Epler Avenue will now be the routes to Edgewood.
Before holiday travel, Johnson County personnel also anticipate lifting the single-lane restriction on northbound SR 37 near SR 144 and Olive Branch Road. There, they had been working in the median.
