Bloomington Teen In Critical Condition Following Bicycle Accident
A Bloomington teen is in critical condition after she crashed her bicycle into an SUV Sunday afternoon.
According to a Bloomington Police Department report, 15-year-old Shawnda Doyle was riding her bicycle westbound on Sherwood Hills Drive when she struck the side of a 2010 Ford Expedition driven by 63-year-old Mary Block who was traveling north on Walnut Street Pike.
Police say the bicycle had no working brakes.
Block told police she saw the bicyclist approaching the intersection at a high rate of speed and the rider was unable to slow or stop before striking her vehicle. Block told police she applied her brakes and attempted to swerve to prevent the collision.
When police arrived they found Doyle unconscious. She was flown by a medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
