Bloomington Transit to replace late service with Uber rides

Published

Bloomington, Indiana – Starting June 27, after 9 p.m., Bloomington Transit will end service for routes 1 through 5.

Late-night service will be replaced by subsidized Uber or Lyft rides.

Riders will pay the first $1 of their trip, with BT paying up to $19, under the new policy. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles can be requested from BT Dispatch at 812-336-7433.

After a two-year delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic, BT’s new bus routes will be in place on August 15.

Changes include merging routes 1 South and 7 Express for a one-hour runtime and 20-minute frequency, a redesign of Route 3, and discontinuation of routes 8 and 10.

Due to staff shortages and pushback against lower frequency routes, a proposed route that would loop around the city, Route 90, was scrapped.
