Bloomington Woman Shoots Armed Intruder
(BLOOMINGTON) – A 24-year-old Bloomington woman shot an armed intruder after he entered her apartment Sunday night wearing a ski mask and ordered the occupants onto the floor at gunpoint.
The 25-year-old Illinois man is in critical but stable condition at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, according to a news release from Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo.
Officers were called to the apartment in the 3200 block of East Tenth Street around 10 p.m.
According to witnesses, two men forced their way into the apartment and ordered the occupants to the floor.
When a 25-year-old man started wrestling with the armed intruder, the woman “produced her own weapon and shot the robber in the neck with a 9mm handgun,” the release reads.
The second intruder fled the scene and remains at large.
No one else was hurt.
The woman who shot the man fled from the scene, but later met with a detective to give her account of what had happened.
“Investigators noted several indicators of drug activity at the residence where the shooting occurred and believe the sale of drugs to be a contributing factor in the incident,” the news release states. “Investigators are still working to determine the identity of the other man involved in the attempted robbery.”
No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Joe Henry at 812-349-3907.
