Bloomington, Indiana – Crews from the City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) were called in on Sunday, September 24, 2023, to fix a broken water main on West Gourley Pike. Until Monday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m., fifty-nine addresses are under a precautionary boil water advisory, unless otherwise advised. Details and addresses can be found at bloomington.in.gov/utilities or by calling 812-339-1444.

When the water main’s pressure falls below 20 psi, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) mandates that all public water utilities issue a precautionary boil water advisory. Those who are impacted should adhere to the following guidelines:

• Immediately after your normal water pressure is restored, run COLD water, from a sink or tub until clear water flows from the faucet.

• Boil all water used for drinking, cooking, and oral hygiene for at least 5 minutes prior to consumption.

• It is not necessary to boil water for other uses. Customers who have signed up for the Monroe County Alert will be alerted directly.

As an alternative, CBU clients can find a list of the individual addresses impacted by visiting the CBU website at bloomington.in.gov/utilities. Click “Resident Alert Sign Up” at www.co.monroe.in.us to sign up for the Monroe County Alert if you haven’t already.

With the use of this application, CBU and other government agencies can promptly notify you of important information, such as tornado warnings and recommendations regarding road closures, missing individuals, and evacuations that are only applicable to the locations you register or the entire county. You have the option to sign up to get time-sensitive messages via home phone, email, or text message, and you may choose the kinds of alerts you want to get.

Kindly call 812-339-1444 to voice any concerns or issues you may have about the City of Bloomington Utilities.
