Colts’ Richardson to start preseason opener at Buffalo

Indianapolis, Indiana – On Saturday, the Anthony Richardson era will begin.
Despite splitting first-team repetitions with Gardner Minshew throughout training camp, Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced on Thursday that No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft Trent Richardson will start the team’s first preseason game.
On Saturday at 1, the Colts and Buffalo Bills will face off.
Richardson experienced ups and downs in training camp, as was to be expected of a rookie quarterback. However, the first-round pick will play in his first professional game against the Bills because experience is crucial.
Even though it’s a preseason game, Richardson has shown significant progress since practicing with the first team on Thursday at Grand Park in Westfield.
In regards to the Colts’ starting quarterback, Steichen had remained evasive. Prior to Steichen’s declaration during his Thursday media availability, the team’s “unofficial depth chart” this week listed Minshew OR Richardson as the starting quarterback, offering little clarification.
