COVID-19 positivity for Monroe County drops slightly after slow climb

Monroe County’s seven-day positivity rate for all COVID-19 tests showed its first signs of dropping this week.
Since mid-March, the average has climbed slowly, reaching 1.3% in early April. It remained at 1.3% until Friday, when it dropped very slightly to 1.2%.
As of Wednesday, the county remained in the yellow advisory level on the Indiana State Department of Health’s county metrics map. The status is determined based on an average of two scores: weekly cases per 100,000 residents and seven-day positivity rate. Monroe County has a score of zero for positivity, indicating it has remained lower than 5%; and a score of 2 for weekly cases per 100,000, indicating that number is between 100 and 199.
On April 7, county health administrator Penny Caudill said she hoped the rise in cases per 100,000 would plateau soon and begin to decrease. At the time, the number was 137; it later rose to 147. For this week, it was down to 123.
