Driver uses throttle instead of brakes; SUV strikes a nursing home twice
Indianapolis, Indiana – When she arrived at work on Saturday afternoon, a nursing home employee claims she unintentionally drove an SUV into the building twice, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.
At 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, the Indianapolis Fire Department was notified of a structural collapse at Harcourt Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation, located at 8181 Harcourt Road. That is on the north side of the city, directly southwest of Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Although the 58-year-old driver – who remained anonymous – did not require rescue from the SUV, he did sustain some minor injuries in the collision. There were no other injuries.
The woman admitted to investigators that when attempting to park both times, she inadvertently pressed the gas pedal rather than the brake. According to a news statement from the fire department, “it is unclear whether she experienced a medical issue.”
The structure sustained only minor harm. A squad from the fire department stabilized the structure.
