Electrical fire erupts in east side home

Indianapolis, Indiana – A two-story house was destroyed by smoke and flames early on Saturday morning.
On Saturday at 6:51 a.m., fire crews were called to 45 N Chester Ave. in response to a complaint of a large fire and smoke coming from a house’s back.
According to the Indianapolis Flames Department, high winds carried flames across the balloon frame construction of the property. The attic, crawl area, and all levels were reported to be on fire at 7:24 a.m. By 9:23 a.m., the fire was under control. At 10:15 a.m., the responders departed the scene.
After smelling smoke in the dining room, the home’s residents, a husband and wife, fled through the front door.
The home’s occupants did notice electrical problems, even though no injuries were documented. IFD determined that the cause was electrical.
“Firefighters made a well-coordinated attack on the fire – keeping exposure damage to a minimum,” said Rita L. Reith, Battalion Chief/Director of Media Relations MPIO. “However, high winds pushed the fire into multiple void spaces throughout.”
