Fans gather as Indiana Fever hosts season opener against Connecticut Sun
Indianapolis, Indiana – The Indiana Fever is back in action in the circular city in no time at all.
The supporters we spoke with today express their utmost delight at the players’ return to the court. Additionally, they are enthusiastic about the team’s future.
“It’s a full house and people waiting to get in line. It is going to be awesome this season,” said fan Fred Glass.
Long before the game began, spectators poured into Gainbridge Fieldhouse to watch the Fever play the Connecticut Sun. Unfortunately, on Friday night, the Fever fell to the Sun by a score of 71–60. The team’s following match is on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m., away at the New York Liberty.
“We actually came from southern Indiana and drove up to be here at the opening of the Fever and watch some women’s basketball,” said Michelle Michael, one of several spectators in attendance.
“My son’s school offered us a really good price on tickets and we like to support our team. A lot of people don’t support the girls,” said Maggie Rodriguez.
It is obvious that the supporters have great expectations for how far the fever can travel this season.
“I think the mix-up they have of the players and trying to make it improve each year on what they have will help,” said Kelly Godzeski.
With only 5 victories and 31 losses, the Fever had the worst record in the league at the end of the previous season.
With some new faces on the roster, fans think it’s time for the team to step up.
These include the first overall pick, Aliyah Boston, and the seventh overall pick, Grace Berger, both from Indiana University. Fans are hoping for good things to come with the new head coach Christie Sides.
Many supporters express their excitement for the upcoming games and what this new age of Fever basketball would bring.
