Firefighters in Indiana Dunes State Park rescue a goose stuck in frozen damp sand
Porter, Indiana – Volunteer firefighters in northern Indiana assisted in freeing frozen Canada geese from their icy bonds.
A Canada goose was discovered frozen to the wet sand at Lake Michigan’s shore at Indiana Dunes State Park on Monday, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
DNR reported that other Good Samaritans had already tried unsuccessfully to liberate the fowl.
The Porter volunteer firefighters came quickly to help the conservation officials safely remove the goose from the icy beach while also assisting the animal and reducing risk to the general public.
The bird was subsequently moved, according to the DNR, to a registered wildlife rehabilitation and veterinary facility for care.
DNR expressed gratitude to the general public for alerting its conservation officers and assisting in the freeing of the geese.
