Fishers adds 7th fire station, baby rescue box
Fishers, Indiana – The Fishers Fire Department had a significant day on Wednesday.
It also unveiled a Safe Haven Baby Box and the eighth fire station in the city. The boxes are the first of their kind in Fishers and were created to stop the illegal abandonment of newborns.
According to Captain John Mehling, it’s all about giving back to the community that has been helpful to them.
“We water programs out here. They’re always the first to invite us out, to come out and teach water rescue to their kids at the neighborhood pools, such an amazing community where neighbors know neighbors out here, which is a kind of a thing that isn’t experienced everywhere anymore. It’s kind of like that small-town feel, and this station is really a part of the communities out here versus just being a resource.”
Additionally, according to Mehling, the new station will help them increase staffing and reaction times.
The fire station is located at 15109 E. 136th St., which is about a mile east of the roundabout at 136th Street and Southeastern Parkway and south of Interstate 69.
