Following an Indianapolis police pursuit, state police detain 2 juveniles
Indianapolis, Indiana – Following a police chase in Indianapolis on Tuesday morning, the Indiana State Police detained two adolescents.
In the vicinity of 43rd Street and Shadeland Avenue, state troopers were searching for a stolen black Hyundai Sonata. At 10:32 in the morning, the troopers attempted to pull over the stolen car.
The driver of the stolen automobile didn’t slow down; instead, he or she sped off, giving police a chase through the city until swerving onto I-465 Southbound. According to police, the vehicle was trying to exit at Brookville Road on the southeast side of the city when he lost control and plowed into some trees close to the roadway.
While conducting a patrol fly in the vicinity, a state police helicopter responded to provide assistance.
Two individuals were seen by the police in the helicopter exiting the wrecked car and fleeing the scene. The adolescent suspects were located by the police in the helicopter, who then promptly detained them.
K-9 Apache from the state police and his handler arrived at the scene to help with the investigation. According to state police, a loaded revolver, a loaded shotgun, four other guns, a rucksack filled with various types of ammunition, and a grenade launcher were all discovered during the investigation.
A 14-year-old who had just been reported as a runaway was riding in the stolen car with a 17-year-old driver who was also there. After being detained, both individuals were sent to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center. The 17-year-old is accused of auto theft, possession of the stolen property, obstructing an officer with a vehicle, resisting an officer, and having a firearm while a juvenile. A preliminary allegation of resisting law enforcement is brought against the 14-year-old.
The inquiry is still open and being reviewed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
