Gunfire damages businesses on Indianapolis’ near-east side
Indianapolis, Indiana – On Indianapolis’ near-east side, two business owners are tidying up after gunfire damaged their stores.
Early on Friday morning, shots were fired at 10th Street and Rural Street, prompting police to respond. They discovered that several establishments had been hit by gunshots. Those stores are currently searching for the perpetrator.
At Sam’s Square Pie, everything is running smoothly. Although patrons continue to savor their daily pizza slices, owner Jeffrey Miner’s morning did not begin that way.
“I walked in and glass was all over my building,” Miner said.
At Gomez BBQ, there’s more broken glass just one door away. At both shops, part of the windows are now covered with wooden boards. According to Miner, things could have been worse despite the damage.
“I’m glad nobody was here,” he said. “Nobody got hurt. It’s just more the headache of having to clean everything.”
Miner is now left questioning why it occurred in the first place.
“I don’t know what it was,” Miner said. “Was it kids sending a message? Was it a prank? Who knows. Guns are everywhere. They’re all over the street.”
According to Miner, there should be no crime happening in the vicinity of his business on an irregular basis.
“We need a better police presence in this alley way here,” Miner said. “And the drug dealers can’t just open-air market, because it’s pretty much open-air drug market right across the street.”
Miner hopes that the police will find the person who fired into his restaurant, while he continues to serve each pie one box at a time. Miner has a brief message for the people responsible in the interim:
“To the punks that did it, we’re not going anywhere,” he said.
This incident is currently being looked into by the police. 317-262-8477 is the number to reach Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana if you have any information regarding this case.
