Indiana State Police detain an Alabama murder suspect in Delaware County’s rural area
Delaware County, Indiana – After being discovered in rural Delaware County, Indiana State Police detained an Alabama man who was thought to have killed someone back in his native country.
ISP said that after receiving many complaints from locals about a reckless driver in the area, troopers from the Pendleton District stopped a car for speeding on State Road 35 near Mt. Pleasant at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
The ISP identified the driver as Teddy Donnell Cozart, and the trooper discovered that he was wanted for an Alabama homicide. ISP reported that the 20-year-old Andalusia, Alabama, resident was operating a red Ford Focus.
The arrest warrant for Cozart, according to the Andalusia Police Department, was issued in connection with an alleged event in October 2022 in which a man was shot and died as he was leaving a nearby apartment building.
ISP said that Cozart was detained by law enforcement and sent to the Delaware County Jail, where he is being detained pending extradition to Alabama.
