Indiana State Trooper was detained for OWI and put on leave

Floyd County, Indiana – An Indiana State Police trooper was detained for driving under the influence.
Zachary Smith, a 12-year ISP veteran, was detained Thursday afternoon at his home in Floyd County, according to state police. Initially, troopers had gone to Smith’s house to provide official documentation.
However, when officers arrived at Smith’s residence, they observed him pulling his personal car into his driveway. ISP claimed that Smith, the only occupant of the car, had signs of intoxication while he communicated with officers after parking.
Smith was detained at Floyd County Jail for OWI as a result of the investigation that followed.
Smith is currently on administrative leave while the OWI charge and an internal ISP inquiry are being investigated.
