Indianapolis man arrested for September 2021 homicide

Indianapolis, Indiana – According to authorities, an Indianapolis man has been detained for the murder of a guy who was discovered dead and badly hurt close to Monument Circle in September 2021.
The death of 34-year-old Atlas Wedlow Jr. was the cause of Markeiss Armstrong’s arrest on Thursday, according to a statement from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Just before two in the morning on September 21, 2021, IMPD officers were sent to a report of a person down at 100 N. Pennsylvania Street.
When police arrived, they discovered Wedlow next to an office building at Pennsylvania and Ohio Streets after he had been brutally assaulted.
Wedlow was brought to Eskenazi Medical Center. On September 29, he passed away from his wounds, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office determined that his homicide was brought on by several blunt force trauma.
“IMPD Homicide detectives determined this was related to an earlier assault and continued the investigation, during which they were able to identify Mr. Armstrong as the alleged suspect,” IMPD said.
On December 22, 2022, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office issued a warrant for Armstrong’s arrest; the next day, he was taken into custody.
Armstrong is charged with one count of murder, according to online court documents. He was being held without bond at the Marion County Jail.
The first hearing will take place online on Thursday.
