Indianapolis, Indiana – We are gaining a better understanding of the new housing development that will be built on North Meridian Street.

A $45 million new housing development named 1827 Lofts is what Indianapolis-based TWG Development proposes to construct.

The new workforce housing neighborhood will be located at 1827 North Meridian Street, between 18th and 19th Streets.

There will be 166 total flats in the lofts, ranging from studios to two-bedroom homes.

“I really think it’s awesome,” said Laparish Sadberry, who lives in the neighborhood. “I really think this is a very positive thing. It’s really going to make our downtown look really nice.”

Sadberry claimed that ever since learning that a brand-new apartment complex would be built downtown, she has been overjoyed.

Sadberry expressed her hope that the sleek new style will change people’s perceptions of her downtown neighborhood.

“It’s time to go and start doing something and making our town look very nice and positive,” said Sadberry.

The development is only a few feet from Meridian’s IndyGo Red Line. Business owners like Jimmy Vo of Jimmy’s Nail Spa believe the community will benefit from having a project like this close to a major thoroughfare.

“For a very long time it’s been getting run down,” said Vo. “And this is Meridian. If you go down a little bit down the street you go straight to Monument Circle. And if you pay attention to any city in the world, a ‘Meridian’ of any kind should be building.”

The price of the flats at 1827 Lofts is currently unknown.

TWG claims that 5% of the apartments will be set aside for affordable housing.

According to realtor.com, the cost of renting significantly increased in the previous year.

The city’s rent accounted for 20% of the median income in February 2022. According to recent data, it is taking 22.1%.

In any case, individuals expressed their happiness at the addition of more options in the downtown area.

“I’m happy. I’m really, really happy about it,” Sadberry said. “I think others should be happy too.”

It is anticipated that construction will begin this month, with a May 2025 completion date.
