Man accused of trying to rape a woman at IU

Bloomington, Indiana – According to Indiana University Police, a guy from Bloomington has been taken into custody in relation to an attempted rape that was stopped by onlookers on Friday afternoon.
According to investigators, the IU student received resources and help. The student’s identity was kept secret.
According to IU Police, in a press release provided on Sunday, 26-year-old Brian Silas Jones, who is not connected to the university, is being charged with two preliminary felonies: attempted rape and sexual battery.
An attempted sexual assault was reported to the police at 5:34 p.m. on Friday in Dunn Woods, which is located south of the campus student building.
Jones was later discovered at the Fourth and Lincoln Street junction.
“The IU Police Department commends the quick action of the bystanders that stepped in when they saw a harmful situation and for swiftly contacting law enforcement,” the release said.
According to the news release, there are services for mental health help available online as well as information on campus for preventing and supporting sexual assault.
