Man charged with murder after argument leads to fatal shooting
Indianapolis, Indiana – On Monday, the Marion County Prosecutors Office announced that an Indianapolis man has been charged with murder for a fatal shooting Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened early Tuesday morning southeast of East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive.
Upon arrival at the scene, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officers found Anthony Higginson Jr. inside a home with multiple gunshot wounds. They also found Joshua Peyton leaning against a vehicle parked in the street. Police say Peyton had gunshot wounds on his arm and leg.
Peyton and Higginson were taken to separate hospitals, but Higginson died from his injuries, police said.
According to police, the shooting happened after an argument between the two men.
The argument turned physical in the front yard of a home in the 3600 block of North Grant Avenue, according to witnesses.
Witnesses say Peyton shot Higginson multiple times after the argument. Police believe Higginson shot back and hit Peyton.
According to online court records, on Wednesday, Peyton will have an initial hearing in Marion Superior Court 27.
