Indianapolis, Indiana – A motorcyclist was shot and killed early on Thursday while passing through an intersection on the city’s near-north side, according to Indianapolis police.

A male was reported to be on the ground just before 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of East 34th Street and Hillside Avenue/Baltimore Avenue, west of Washington Park.

When police from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived, they saw a man standing next to a motorcycle in someone’s yard. At the site, medical personnel declared the man dead.

Police suspect that after being shot, the victim crashed his motorcycle. Residents of the house observed the man and dialed 911, according to IMPD.

No arrests have been made, according to an announcement from IMPD, although investigators are pursuing a number of leads.

According to IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer, anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who fired the rounds should contact detectives.

“It’s definitely frustrating for the officers to see this day in and day out. But it’s also frustrating for the public and the family members that are directly affected by this. I would hope that there would be citizens that will step forward that saw something to give us some information to help the detectives solve this crime,” Weilhammer said.

Once his family has been informed, the man’s name will be released by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

Contact Detective Christopher Morgan at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or by email at [email protected] if you have any information.
