Pacers’ longtime Director of Media Relations passes away
Indianapolis, Indiana – David Benner, a longtime director of media relations for the Indiana Pacers, passed away on Wednesday, the team reported.
Team owner Herb Simon said “David embodied the very best of our organization. He was immensely talented, experienced, and humble, and his passion for our players and the Pacers organization is what made him beloved by the coaches and athletes with whom he worked. David meaningfully impacted countless people here and around the League, and he will be missed. We will continue to keep him and his family in our prayers.”
Benner attended Center Grove schools as well as IUPUI and Indiana University.
He was the Pacers beat writer for the Indianapolis Star newspaper and a sports reporter. Benner also covered Notre Dame football and IU basketball.
He joined the Pacers in 1994–1995 and served as their director of media relations for 28 years before retiring in 2022.
