Police say shooting near IU’s Memorial Stadium was accidental, self-inflicted
Bloomington, Indiana – Authorities say a 19-year-old man is recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a firearm discharged in his pocket near Indiana University’s Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.
Shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, IUPD tweeted that a shooting west of Dunn Street and Varsity Lane is under investigation.
The Bloomington Police Department says it was origionally believed that the man was shot by someone else, but he eventually admitted to investigators that the gun had gone off in his pocket as he was walking. The discharged round struck him in the leg.
The man is awake and conscious and was taken to the IU Health Emergency Department for treatment, according to BPD.
Police say there is no continuing threat in the area.
