Post Road and Raymond Street will soon see the newest roundabout in Indianapolis
Indianapolis, Indiana – There are plans for a new roundabout in Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis Department of Public Works states that the city’s most recent roundabout will be at Post Road and Raymond Street.
Planning for the $2 million repair began five years ago, according to DPW, and includes federal funds. The purpose of the roundabout is to lessen traffic congestion.
“People are excited to reduce traffic,” said Auboni Hart with DPW. “Responses are typically mixed. We have people who are in favor, people who are not. But everyone is in favor of reduced traffic congestion.”
Drivers had to deal with restrictions at the intersection on Monday as the utility relocation operation, which has already begun, continued.
The intersection will be completely closed by the end of August, with construction on the roundabout itself anticipated to begin in the middle of the month. According to DPW, construction is anticipated to take around 60 days.
Along with improved storm drainage, the project also features new sidewalks and better curbs.
