Indianapolis, Indiana – According to a news release issued by the American Red Cross, a low number of blood donations could put a strain on the organization’s blood supply.

The Red Cross only received 26,000 more blood donations in May than was required to meet patient demands. The Red Cross is aiming to spread awareness of the need for a secure blood supply since there is an ongoing need for blood and because World Blood Donor Day is coming up on June 14 this year.

After West Nile Virus was discovered in Indiana, health officials issued a warning about mosquito-borne illnesses.

Anyone who donates blood, platelets, or plasma between June 1 and June 30 will get an email with a $10 gift card to a store of their choice. Additionally, they will have a chance to win a backyard theater package. Discover more about the benefits of giving here.

Make an appointment to give blood by contacting 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767), downloading the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, or going to their website here. Any Alexa Echo device with the Blood Donor Skill activated can be used to schedule an appointment or get further details.
