Richmond residents sue the owner of the facility in a class action lawsuit
Richmond, Indiana – Residents who were impacted by the warehouse fire and the ensuing evacuation of their homes have sued Seth Smith and Cornerstone Trading Group, LLC as a class.
Residents who live close to Richmond’s 308 NW F Street plastic recycling facility, which caught fire on April 11, are the plaintiffs in the lawsuit.
The Wane County recorder has long issued unsafe building orders and fire danger reports for the property, which are to blame in the case along with Smith.
The lawsuit also asserts that despite being aware of the risks, the corporation did nothing to address the harmful working environment.
According to the lawsuit, the fire forced almost 2,000 individuals to leave their homes and resulted in the closure of multiple businesses.
According to court documents, this led to a loss of revenue and earnings as well as health problems from breathing in poisonous vapors and smoke.
Residents claim that following the fire, the value of their property has dropped dramatically.
In the complaint, damages in excess of $25,000 are sought.
