Scott County house fires claim two lives
Indianapolis, Indiana – Two men who perished in house fires this week have been identified by Scott County police.
Just before five on Wednesday morning, Scott County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a fire on Red Bud Lane. That is located in northeastern Scott County, directly east of the town of Austin.
According to a release from the Scott County sheriff’s office, firefighters discovered Stephen Webster dead inside the home.
The fire is being looked into by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a house that had recently caught fire in the 1400 block of State Road 3 east of Scottsburg later that day.
“After not hearing from the occupant of the residence for several days, a check of the property resulted in a call to the 911 Central Dispatch Center where a report was made requesting help,” the sheriff’s office said.
The occupant of the house, who was subsequently identified as Scott County resident James Weston, was discovered dead with extensive body burns.
The exact time of the fire is unknown.
Investigators anticipate learning more from the results of a planned autopsy and do not believe foul play to have occurred.
