Shots fired during fight after basketball game at Lawrence Central High School
Lawrence, Indiana – Following a boys’ basketball game between rival high schools in the Lawrence Township Schools area, shots were fired in a parking lot on Wednesday night, according to police.
Chief Gary Woodruff of the Lawrence Police Department reports that no one was hurt.
Just after 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Lawrence Central High School’s parking lot saw a disturbance following the Lawrence North boys basketball game, for which police were called. According to Woodruff, two bullets were fired during the commotion. Located immediately east of the I-465 junction at 7300 E. 56th St. is Lawrence Central High School.
Officers discovered a young person carrying a gun inside the gymnasium as they were cleaning up the scene after the bullets were fired. It’s unclear if the young person fired the rounds earlier or not. Furthermore, Woodruff states that he was not immediately aware of the juvenile’s age or gender.
Informing its “stakeholders,” Lawrence Central Schools stated that the minor was not enrolled in the district.
Officers from several police agencies were combing over the entire school at about 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday to clear it.
Lawrence Central was defeated 79–61 by Lawrence North.
