Summer activities in Bloomington to keep an eye out for

Bloomington, Indiana – Around Bloomington, there is constantly something to do. Shakespeare, comedy, farmers’ markets, and concerts all keep the city alive throughout the summer. Here are a few of the most thrilling upcoming events.

Fitness in the Park

Get your fit on at the Main Stage at Switchyard Park! Fitness in the Park occurs every week until June 16. For $5, you can choose between Tai Chi from 7-8 p.m. on Mondays, Zumba from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesdays, and Beginning Yoga from noon to 1 p.m. on Fridays.

Shakespeare in the Park

“True hope is swift, and flies with swallow’s wings; Kings it makes gods, and meaner creatures kings.” Monroe County Civic Theater will perform “Richard III” this year and you can see it at 7 p.m. on June 1-3 or 2 p.m. on June 4 at Waldron, Hill and Buskirk Park.

Thursday Night Summer Music Series

Put on by Visit Bloomington and Bloomington Parks and Recreation, this concert series begins June 15 and continues once a month until August. Each concert consists of a different genre, with jazz in June, indie rock, surf and doo-wop in July and bluegrass in August. The featured performers are Makaya McCraven on June 15, Shannon and the Clams on July 20, and Molly Tuttle on August 24.

Farmers’ Market

The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market is open to the south of City Hall on Morton and Seventh every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until November 18. Beginning on June 6, you can also go to the Tuesday Market at Switchyard Park. The Tuesday Market is from 4-7 p.m. every Tuesday until September.

Limestone Comedy Festival

From June 1-3, the Limestone Comedy Festival will consist of numerous comics performing at various locations almost nonstop for three days. The locations include the Back Door, the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, the Comedy Attic and the Bishop. Comedians like Melissa Villasenor and Kyle Kinane will each perform several shows.
